Table Scraps: Too Hot to Walk

Man, it’s a hot one (insert “like 7 inches from the midday sun” here). Like I’m sweating in my office hot one. In Seattle, our apartments are rarely equipped with air conditioning, so while I have a portable a/c, it’s not even hooked up yet. That’s how infrequent these days are. And with great heat, comes great responsibility… for our pets. I keep trying to take Kitty and Coconut out for their afternoon walk, and Kitty just plops down in the shade and refuses to move. There’s never a place for me to sit down next to her, and Coconut wants to keep trotting along. So after a while, I try to get Kitty up, which has turned into a comedy of errors - namely where she rolls on her back and pushes me away with one of her feet. She has way too much personality for an animal that tops out at 35 pounds.

So, what are you reading? Sam Sifton mentioned The Dog That Stole Rick Bragg’s Heart from Garden & Gun in his NYT Cooking email today. It is exceptional. I recently discovered the facebook group, This Cat has a Bebe, and don’t be turned off by the cat part, “all animals welcome, not just cats!” The Seattle Times’s I used to think independence was everything. A pandemic and a goofy little cat taught me otherwise is also heart-warming, and beware - the pics of her recent addition are SO cute (smoosh faced cats are so special). Did you know goat milk may be good for your pet? (And check out this article on all kinds of milk for dogs, btw.) And finally, if you haven’t noticed Bombas socks, maybe it’s time to take another look; they have a happiness guarantee that says, “If your dog chews up your new Bombas socks, we'll send you a brand new pair, absolutely free.”

Stay cool, love ya like a sister,

MPCC xx
