Table Scraps: It's a Hot One

Well, we did it. We finally joined twitter. Give us a follow if you’re a tweeter; no shade if you don’t dig on the tweets. (We’re also on Facebook and Instagram, if that’s more your doggie bag)

So - how is everyone faring? I’ve been thinking about the heat and how it affects our pets. Heat stroke is a big deal if you’re already covered in fur; here are some great tips from Healthy Paws for dogs, but cats can get it too! Keep an eye out for all pets during these hot summer months.

I’ve also noticed a ton of foxtails are taking over downtown Seattle - this morning alone I picked out four from Little Coconut’s harness. If you’re not privy to the damage foxtails can do, these little devils burrow into pet’s ears, underarms, eyes, gums, paws, nose, and even can end up internal organs. If you notice your pet limping, check in between paw pads; and if you find an embedded foxtail that could be removed via tweezers, go get it. If you can’t remove it, you will need to call your vet. It’s serious business!

I’m currently reading Jia Tolentino’s Trick Mirror, and while googling her, I noticed she had many pics with her dog, Luna. Well, guess WHAT. Jezebel did an incredible piece on Luna, and I highly recommend checking it out: Luna Tolentino: The Next Big Dog. It’s so good!

Otherwise, I’m reading all kinds of stuff online, of course. I found How to Manage the Emotional Impact of Getting Laid Off on The New York Times to be especially helpful. Fervently waiting for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, which premieres on Sunday. What are you looking forward to? If you’re protesting, I wish you the best health right now. Solidarity and strength.

MPCC xx
