What Are Your Dog's Ears Telling You?

When I adopted Little Coconut, I was scared. Really scared. I bottomed out in blood sugar when we went to pick her up, dropping to 22 on my meter, slamming apple and orange juice and all the candy in my possession (sidenote - I’m diabetic and take insulin). I recovered and we took her. She hadn’t peed the entire journey from Texas to Washington.

She met us, and she peed.

Little Coconut is a very special cuddlebug. I think most of you get it when I say, “this little rescue dog is so grateful.” She’s so sweet, loving, and just wants to be with us, always. I’m sure you can relate.

But she also has the most expressive ears! They’re hilariously big for her little face, and sometimes she just looks like an animatronic puppet. Perhaps she is part Henson.

So I turned to one of my favorite illustrators, Lili Chen, who has a great little guide on what your dog’s ears (and body) might mean. Ms. Chen is also releasing a book this year (October 2020), so I’m stoked! If you don’t follow her, please start. She’s incredibly talented and everything she makes is educational, and very, very cute.

So what are your dog’s ears saying today?
