Table Scraps: A December to Remember

Ah, December. Who knew we’d get here? Who knew that, way back in March, we’d be battling the same craptastic situation. I’ve been thinking about a lot of things: are we gonna crush 2021 or will we be crushed? Do we get a vaccine? Will I be healthy? With so much uncertainty, there’s one thing that stays the same. And that’s my ability to ramble, oh! Two things -- my ability to ramble and my dogs’ obsession with licking hand cream. I know, it’s weird and it drives me crazy. I still don’t understand it - even if it smells good, it surely can’t taste great.

So, with that, let’s continue to ramble…

PSA: Did you know puppies’ bones aren’t completely fused until 8 months to a year? Avoid injury by not exercising those little guys too much! More info here.

One of my most (zany) passionate ideas is to eventually develop MPCC into a brand that has sustainable/eco-friendly/animal-friendly snacks - i.e. pet food made out of lab meat. Well, you can imagine my delight when I saw in The New York Times that it’s coming faster than expected! The company, Eat Just, harnessed the power of a Singapore company who creates “cultured meat,” which is meat grown in a lab from cells rather than from the slaughter of livestock. They created “chicken bites” and they’ll be available only at a restaurant in Singapore. While I’m in it for animal welfare, there are also pros across the board for the environment and feeding hungry mouths. Plus, as The Guardian reports, “Meat cultivated in bioreactors also avoids the issues of bacterial contamination from animal waste and the overuse of antibiotics and hormones in animals.” This is such exciting news, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next!

In pet company gossip, I noticed that The Dodo is going to be launching pet insurance, and Petco is going public on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “WOOF.” That’s probably the cutest stock update I’ve ever seen.

As it gets colder and your pup may not enjoy the chilly A.M. walks, check out these adorable tie-dyed hoodies by Little Beast. And finally, Catster has a great article on keeping kitties safe around the Christmas tree (in my childhood, our cats legit would go climbing right up the tree, eating tinsel and breaking ornaments).

Cheers,

MPCC xx
